2. What is the dress codes on a Yangtze river cruise?
The Dress Code is casual during the day and while on shore. Shorts and t-shirts are fine, even in the dining room.
There is usually a captain's welcome dinner on the first or second night, and sometimes a farewell dinner (on some of the ships) on the last night onboard. It's usually a cocktail dinner with buffet. You may dress comparetively "formal" - but I bet you can always see some people with informal even very casual clothes.
Remember, it's YOUR cruise and you should wear what's comfortable for you.
3. What can we see along the Yangtze River?
Along the Yangtze River, you will pass many cities, Three Gorges and Three Gorges Dam, and different cruisers may choose to have different shore excursions, but generally speaking, one day you will have shore excursions to the "Ghost City"-Fengdu, or Wanzhou or Shibaozhai, one day Lesser Three Gorges or Shennong Stream, one day the Three Gorges Dam.
Please note that the scenic spots and the whole journey may be adjusted due to the weather or the conditions of water.
4. What is the difference between upstream and downstream sailings?
1) The downstream sailings take less time;
2) For the downstream sailings, the ship will drop anchor at midnight, and starts sailing in the early morning, while it keeps sailing both at day and night for the upstream sailing. Thus when sleeping the noise is much less and you get better sleep. That's why -
3) For many ships, the downstream cruise is more expensive than the upstream cruise.
4) The excursion sites are also different.
5. How long will it take for ships to pass through the five-level ship locks?
It will take ships two and a half hours to pass through the five-level ship locks.
6. What is the weather like on Yangtze River? And what is the best season to visit the Three Gorges?
The Yangtze River is situated in the subtropics with about 30 degree North latitude, featuring strong wind, humid and less sunshine. The average temperature is 30 C(90F) in July and 10 C(50F) in January. In summer, dramatic thunderstorms and heavy rains often happen to make the water level high between July and September, while winter is short and cold. Thus, spring and autumn are the best seasons for taking the cruise.
7. What should I pack for my Yangtze River cruise?
Inside the cruise ships, central air conditioners are installed, since the cruise includes some outdoor activities, we recommend that you do the packing according to different seasons:
Spring & autumn: woollen coat, jacket, rainproof coat with a cap, comfortable walking shoes.
Summer: light cotton T-shirt, shorts, sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, rainproof coat with a cap, comfortable walking shoes.
Winter: fur coats, jacket, windproof coats with a hood, comfortable walking shoes.
Please note: you need to prepare some nice clothes for the cocktail party and the banquet which will be held on cruise ships, and if you are willing to participate in the entertainments on board, you can bring a particular outfit with you. But remember: it is OK to attend the party in casual clothes.
8. What is the newest condition of the Three Gorges Project?
The Three Gorges Project is the world¨s largest hydroelectric power plant so far, which was started in 1994 and will be finished in 2009. Now the project has entered into its 3 rd stage construction, in this period, all the turbine generator units will commence generating electricity, and the entire hinge project will be successfully completed.
9. What does my cruise fare include? And what is excluded?
The cruise fare includes meals, accommodations based on double occupancy and shore excursion fees, while cruise fare does not include personal expenses such as wine in the bar, laundry, hairdressing and barbering, postal and cable service, clinic, massage and shopping, gratuities for guides and staff, etc.
10. How do I know which cruiser I am going to take? And how can I get onboard?
When we come to an agreement of your tour, we will send you a confirmation letter with all the details of your tour including the name of the cruiser you are going to take.
If you book the cruise package tour through us, it will include the transportation to the pier to get onboard with the help of our guide and driver.
11. What's the cabin like on ships?
Most of 4-star & 5-star cruisers have 1 or 2 presidential suites, several deluxe suites, all of the cruisers will have quite a few staterooms, some of which have balconies. All the suites and cabins feature remote-controlled satellite color TV, central air conditioning, acoustics, in-cabin IDD, private bathroom with hair-dryer and extension phone.
12. If I am traveling on my own, will I be able to get a single room on ship?
Not all cruisers have single rooms available, please consult with your travel consultants before your booking, if not, we are afraid you need to pay for single supplement.
13. If I require an extra bed, can you arrange that on ship?
The ship cabins are not so big as the hotel rooms. Not all cruisers¨ cabins are big enough to put an extra bed in them, please consult with your travel consultants when you book the tour.
14. Do I need a ticket or a coupon to get on board?
No, you don't need a ticket to get on board, our guide will help you go through check-in procedure which is the same as that in a hotel.
When you get confirmed with us, your names will have been imput into the computer records on the ship. You just need to check in with your full names (as on your passport).
15. Can the staff on ships speaking English?
Yes, most of them speak English. For all the 4-5 star ships, there will be English-Chinese bilingual broadcasting system, and there will be a ship tour guide onboard speaking English.
16. Do I need a converter on board?
Most of the cruisers have both 220V and 110V outlets in the cabins. If you need an adaptor, please contact the housekeeping center on board.
17. Do I have to take part in the scheduled activities or can I just relax on my own?
It is all up to you. You can choose to join in all the scheduled activities or simply do nothing.
18. What kind of food will be served on board?
On board, breakfast will be Chinese and Western buffet, while lunch and dinner will be Chinese cuisine featuring set menu, table service and free soda and beer.
19. Is there an extra charge for the entertainments on board?
No. On board, the entertainments like live shows, first-rate movies, special lectures and DIY classes are all free of charge.
20. Are there laundry services on board?
Yes, laundry services are available on all cruisers, normally laundry sent out before 9:00am can be returned at the same day: those sent after 9:00am will be returned the next day.
21. Are there any medical services on board?
Yes, professional medical services are available on all cruise ships. Doctors on board will offer you medical service and advice on health matter. Medicines for common cold and the digestive system diseases are available. If you suffer from an oversensitive allergy and chronic diseases, please bring your own medicine. |
